About Library
A Library is a heart of an academic institute and Swahid Maniram Dewan College Library is not an exception to that. The Library building was constructed in the year 1999 to serve as the hive of academic activities for students, teachers, and staff in the pursuit of excellence in their respective areas of studies. The library building is originally an Assam type one and it was extended with the RCC foundation in the year 2010. Recently the new construction of an extended duplex type of library building has been completed. The library has separate areas for books stack, student reading room; teacher’s reading room, circulation counter, etc. At present, the library has a fair collection of books of different categories such as textbooks, reference books, conference proceedings, etc. Besides these, the library has collections of rare books, periodicals, newspapers, Minor Research Project Reports of the teaching faculties. Textbooks are lent to deserving bonafide students for each class from the book bank of the library.
The central library is maintained by a Library advisory committee. The entire library holdings have been made available in a machine-readable catalogue since 2010, the computerized bibliographic information of the library holdings has also been available for users’ searching throughout the campus through Local Area Network (intranet) using WebOPAC. The automated circulation system using barcode technology will start soon, providing easy and prompt service to the users. The library has been providing lending and reprographic services, Orientation Programmes for newly admitted students of all the Academic Departments used to be conducted every academic session.
Library Profile:
The Library collections are made up of over 21,500 print and non-print resources and offering online access to more than 6,000 e-journals and over 1,99,500 e-books along with many other collections under N-LIST and 6,00,000 e-books through NDLI.
Book:
The total collection of books in the Library is over 21,500 books which includes Text Books and Reference Books. The collection includes books from the various branches of knowledge such as Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Humanities. The Text Books may be consulted within the Library or may get issued as per formalities laid down in the Library Act. These books are issued to the authorized Library Members for a certain period as per status of the Member. The Reference Books are for only consultation in the library premises and are not allowed for issue. If a Member fails to return book within the stipulated time, an overdue charges is levied against each book per day at the rate prefixed against each category of Member.
Journals/Periodicals Collection
Journals or periodicals or serials are publications produced on a continuing basis following certain regularity of periodicity in its publications. For instance weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, etc. There are some journals which are published irregularly also.
